A Loooooong month

Have you ever felt like a day or a week or a month would never end?  This past month has been like that for us. We have had a  fair number of small trials and  we are just tired - physically and emotionally that is. Spiritually we feel beat up but not defeated. I'm not sure we are at the point of praising the Lord for the trials yet, but given time  we may get there.

In  the past month we have been robbed twice (losing 10 years worth of photos and documents), been in the hospital on 4 separate occasions and had multiple things break. All of this began the day we brought home our foster son Jacob. Jacob is a joy to have in our home and we would not give up the time we have had with him so far, but we do question the spiritual warfare that seems to be associated with his arrival in our home. We also are praying against it.

We have all  gone through a range of emotions since the 2nd robbery  and honestly had moments (although not all at the same time) where we wanted to return to the states. Not to stay there permanently but to have a few moments of familiarity, some sense of normalcy, a sense of trust. We continue to work through this. Part of that is praying more fervently and frequently that we would develop soft hearts for the people we are here to serve and partner with- not to develop bitterness or distrust. It is easy to  walk the streets and look at the local people and  wonder if they were the ones who took our stuff - but what good does that do? Does the thought still occur? Absolutely! What are we doing with those thoughts? Praying through them as best we can and trying to teach our kids to do the same.

So after a month of feeling beat up - we were able to enjoy a trip  to a zoo this morning with several of the kids from the orphanage and a range of adults. This zoo is not like any we have visited in  the states, the birds are not caged, nor are the monkeys, and we had a large rodent type creature follow us for 1/2 a mile while trying to sneak into Jacob's stroller to find treats. It was entertaining and we enjoyed some good laughs - reminding us that life does go on and we can take more photos and create new memories in our new home.
