Chiropractors and taxi drivers!

So, 2 days ago we decided that it was time to try out a local chiropractor. We have been spoiled in the past as Eric's brother has his own practice in Holland, and every month our family would go in for adjustments.

Well, it has been almost 4 months since our last visit and needless to say we were a little past due - especially considering the increased amount of stress with studying, Eric's accident with the surfboard 2 months ago and our infamous hike up the mountain.

This gentleman was recommended to us by a teacher at the school, so armed with directions we found a cab and eventually (we needed to stop and use a cell phone to find it) arrived in front of a non-descript white house. No sign to announce that we were in the right place but we knocked and sure enough we were told that Don Hector was expecting us. It was obviously his home, as we were greeted by his daughter and 2 grandchildren as well as his wife.

Birthday wishes - I think?

So today is my birthday which is usually not a big deal. However my grammar class here in Costa Rica decided that "40" was half way to the grave and that I needed a fiesta. My teacher told the class to wear black on my behalf. As you can see from the photo- I only have 2 friends in my class now, Jeremy in the blue shirt and Heather in the white sweater. :) I would like to say they wore brighter colors on my behalf but I think they just forgot!

Arenal photos

Arenal is the largest active volcano in Costa Rica. About 2 months ago it stopped spewing lava however it continues to smoke. The top of the volcano is shrouded in clouds in this photo. Eventually we did see the top - however not before my camera batteries died.

Family

For those of you who are wondering - Yes, I did recover from the mountain hiking adventure. Day one was rough and there was a lot of groaning involved. Day 2 my legs ached all over but I was able to walk mostly upright and looked "normal" to the untrained eye. Day three my legs only shook when going down hill. Alas, there are a LOT of hills here in San Jose! I was not the only one who ached however. Eric also took a few days to recover. The children, of course, were fine.
